This is a story about a girl afflicted with a “math curse” who confronts timeless puzzlers such as “Does tunafish + tunafish = fournafish?”
Copyrighted material If you’ve ever had a song stuck in your head, you’ll understand the dilemmas presented in this book.
It all starts in a Monday math class when Mrs. Fibonacci says “You know, you can think of almost everything as a math problem.” It unravels from there when the student is faced with everyday conundrums such as “I undo 8 buttons plus 2 shoelaces. I subtract 2 shoes. I multiply times 2 socks and divide by 3 pillows to get 5 sheep, remainder 1, which is all I need to count before I fall asleep.”
Math Curse is another masterpiece written by Jon Scieszka with fantastic illustrations by Lane Smith. Also see their companion volume, Science Verse.
